auditions
New members wishing to join the choir will be asked to take a short voice test. This will be short and straightforward, and definitely nothing to get panicky about! We are not looking for fantastic sight-reading ability - there are, after all, plenty of weeks in which to learn the music for each concert.
What we are looking for is:
- An ability to sing in tune
- Reasonable vocal quality that will blend with other voices in the choir
- Reasonable power in the voice to make a significant contribution to the overall sound
In advance of the day of your audition you will be given a sheet containing several 'warm-up' exercises and a selection of well-known songs (e.g. The Miller of Dee or Scarborough Fair) from which you should choose one to sing. You will only have to sing to the conductor and accompanist and, if all goes well, you will be offered a permanent place in the choir soon afterwards.
You can print off the sheet-music for the audition songs. If you don't have
a PDF reader, get one free from adobe.com.
